매일 공부 Day 51:

Chapter 2, Two Brains Are Better Than One (intergrating the Left and the right)

As we read from the first chapter, our brain devided into two hemosphiers and right and left has two different function. Right brain is emotional and left brain is literal. Very young childern's the brain mainly influenced by the right brain especially during the first three years, so the intergration of the both side is important, so that the two sides of their brain can act in harmony. 

In chapter 2, talks about a story about Katie's who illogically emotional and deny to go to preschool after her sickness. The author said, when a child is emotional and illogical that mean the child's right brain is only working. Our right brain cares about the big picture-the meaning and feel of an experience-and specializes in images, emotions, and personal memories. On the other hand, our left brain loves and desires order. It is logical, literal, linguistic, and linear. 

Therefore, when a child is upset, logic often won't work untill we have responded to the right brain's emotional needs.  We call this emotional connection "attunement," which is how we connect deeply with another person and aloow them to "fee felt." Weh parent and child are tuned in to each other, they experience a sense of joining together. We have to remember that logic isn't our primary vehicle for bringing some sort of sanity to the conversation. It is also crucial to keep in mind that no matter how nonsensical and frustrating our child's feelings may seem to us, they are real and important to our child's feeling may seem to us, they are real and important to our child. 

The author advise that  when a child is upset it is good idea to discuss the misbehave and its consequences after the child has calmed down, since moments of emotional flooding are not the best times for lessons to be learned. 

진작 이책을 읽었으면 애들이 말도 안되게 떼쓸 때 좀 지혜롭게 대처 할 수 있었을 거 같네요.

이제 다 컷지만, 그래도 좀 더 이해하도록 노력 할 수 있을 거 같네요.
